BASURA CERO

PROGRMA CREADO POR EL GOBIERNO DE LA CIUDAD DE MÉXICO

BASURA CERO

Hello, my name is Roger Gerardo Ocampo Buendia. I am currently studying high school at the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Campus. My environmental protection program is "Basura Cero." Even though it's being implemented in Mexico City, in the State of Mexico, we can follow the same example being used there. I like this type of program because I am aware of the situation happening in the Estado de México. Currently, it is known that people generate a lot of waste from the products they consume, and this is very concerning because the more waste, the more pollution we might experience in Estado de México.
I live in Chalco, where the situation regarding this issue is delicate, as you can see a lot of trash on the streets, leading to soil contamination. I would feel good about participating in this program because it would create a benefit for all the residents of Chalco.

As I mentioned before, the name of my program is "Basura Cero," and its purpose is to implement mechanisms aimed at reducing the amount of waste that reaches landfills. This is achieved by promoting a social culture focused on waste separation and proper disposal at Transfer Stations. The goal is to increase the quantity of waste that, due to its characteristics and proper separation, can be recycled and returned to the production cycle.

Five recommendations to protect the environment

1.-Reducing Consumption: This is a very good recommendation since people are increasing their consumption significantly, leading to a lot of waste generation. That's why it's better to opt for products with fewer packages and packaging.

2.-Separate and Recycle: Just like the previous one, this is also a recommendation. You should separate and recycle products that you no longer use. For example, you can separate glass and recycle plastic bottles. I say this because of the many bottles that are seen lying around in the parks of Chalco and Amecameca.

3.-Avoid the Use of Plastics: You should avoid using these types of plastics since they are the ones that cause the most pollution. Moreover, they take years to degrade, which is very harmful to the environment. A clear example is all the discarded plastic bottles we see on the streets.

4.-Pick Up Trash: You should pick up your trash if it falls or if you see any kind of litter on the street, in a room, etc. There's nothing to lose in picking it up, because every time I go out, I see all kinds of trash thrown around, and this results in soil contamination.

5.-Say No to Disposable Products: You should say no when offered items like water, coffee, etc. I'm making this recommendation because every time I go out to a party, I see a lot of disposable dishes being used, and a significant amount of waste is generated because of them.

My experiencies as a volunteer in: "Basura Cero"

Hello again, I'm here to inform you about the new things that have happened to me as a volunteer in this program called "Zero Waste." To start, I want to tell you that I joined this program several weeks ago, and I've been enjoying being a volunteer in it, as I'm learning how to clean the floors.
The weather has been treating me well so far. It's been quite calm. Sometimes it rains, but that's normal for the type of area we're in, so the weather is good and it's very conducive for the activities we do day after day. We've been on the streets of Mexico City, collecting trash and participating in garbage collections, and this makes me very happy because we're contributing to the well-being of Mexico City. We've been to the Angel of Independence, the Zocalo, and other renowned sites in the city.

We have already completed the garbage collection on the streets of Mexico City.

Another activity we have already carried out is recycling the PET we have been collecting from Mexico City.
The last activity we have already completed is cleaning the Zócalo and its green areas, as they needed it.

We haven't conducted door-to-door garbage collection yet, as it takes a lot of time and can be quite tiring.

Another activity we haven't managed to do yet is the garbage collection at the sports facilities, mainly because there are so many, and like the previous one, it's very tiring.

And the other activity we haven't done yet is asking for more volunteers to help us collect more garbage, because we haven't had the time to do so.

We have been planning to carry out two more activities. One of them is going door-to-door to ask for garbage or things that people no longer need in exchange for something. This activity is scheduled to take place in two weeks.

The next activity to be carried out is helping people know where to dispose of their garbage, through the implementation of garbage bins. This activity is still being planned, but it is most likely to take place in three weeks.
